Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake arrived in Bihar earlier today and paid a visit to the Mahabodhi Temple in Bodhgaya, one of the most significant sites in Buddhism.
Upon his arrival at Gaya Airport, President Dissanayake was warmly received by senior government officials. The President offered prayers in the sanctum sanctorum of the temple and visited the sacred Bodhi tree, followed by a tour of the seven locations within the temple complex associated with Lord Buddha. The visit concluded with the ringing of the Dharma bell in Sadhana Udyan and a prayer at the Jayashree Mahabodhi Temple of the Mahabodhi Society.
The Mahabodhi Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, holds immense significance for Buddhists as it marks the location where Lord Buddha attained enlightenment.
President Dissanayake’s trip to India, which is his first overseas visit since taking office in September 2024, spans from December 15 to 17. During this visit, he met with President Droupadi Murmu and held discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on various bilateral, regional, and international issues.
