Sri Lankan Rupee Records Slight Appreciation Against US Dollar

June 18, 2026

The Sri Lankan Rupee recorded a marginal appreciation against the United States Dollar today (18), according to the latest exchange rates released by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL).

According to the CBSL, the buying rate of the US Dollar was recorded at Rs. 329.18, while the selling rate stood at Rs. 339.06.

In comparison, on June 17, the buying rate was Rs. 330.02 and the selling rate was Rs. 339.90.

The latest figures indicate a slight strengthening of the Rupee against the Dollar following recent depreciation pressures in the foreign exchange market.

Currency movements continue to be closely monitored by financial markets, businesses, and policymakers, particularly amid ongoing global economic uncertainties and fluctuations in foreign exchange demand.

The Central Bank has previously stated that exchange rate movements are influenced by a range of factors, including export earnings, worker remittances, foreign investments, import demand, and developments in international financial markets.

Market analysts note that the recent improvement in foreign exchange inflows, particularly through worker remittances and tourism earnings, has contributed to supporting the stability of the local currency.
