Sri Lankan troops gained firsthand experience in firing Russian AK-12 rifles during joint military exercises with Russian forces held in Russia last week.
The exercises were conducted under the “Wolverine Wave – 2026” programme at the Sergeyevsky Training Centre in Russia’s Primorsky Krai region.
The joint training programme focused on sharing combat experience, knowledge, and practical skills between Sri Lankan and Russian military personnel.
A Sri Lankan military officer who participated in the training expressed appreciation to the Russian Federation for organizing the joint exercises.
The officer said the programme provided an opportunity to exchange knowledge, practical experience, and best practices with members of the Russian military.
The exercises are part of efforts to strengthen military cooperation and expand defence engagement between Sri Lanka and Russia.
