The Export Development Board (EDB) says Sri Lanka recorded a significant increase in export earnings in April, continuing the country’s positive momentum in foreign exchange generation.
According to officials, export revenue for April reached US$1.38 billion.
Minister of Plantation and Community Infrastructure Samantha Vidyaratne stated that tea exports alone generated US$451 million in revenue during the first four months of 2026.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka’s cumulative export earnings for the first four months of the year have reached US$5.784 billion.
Authorities say the improved performance in exports is expected to contribute positively to foreign exchange inflows and economic recovery efforts.
Meanwhile, the traditional “Tea Mangalya” ceremony, where the first tea harvest after the Sinhala and Tamil New Year is symbolically offered to the Sacred Tooth Relic, was held today at the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic in Kandy.
The event was attended by Minister Samantha Vidyaratne and Sri Lanka Tea Commissioner K.A.M.K. Jayawardena, among other officials.
The ceremony marks a long-standing tradition highlighting the importance of the tea industry, which remains one of Sri Lanka’s major export sectors and foreign exchange earners.
