The Ministry of Transport, Highways, Ports, and Civil Aviation has announced plans to clear the current backlog of driving licenses by issuing 130,000 licenses in January 2025.

In a move to improve efficiency, the ministry revealed its intention to transition the service to an online platform, aiming to streamline the issuance process and enhance public convenience.

Deputy Minister of Transport and Highways, Dr. Prasanna Kumara Gunasena, and Deputy Minister of Ports and Aviation, Janitha Ruwan Kodithuwakku, recently conducted an unannounced inspection at the Department of Motor Traffic in Werahera.
