Joseph Vijay’s party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, has emerged as the single largest party in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, securing 108 seats.
However, TVK remains 10 seats short of the 118 needed for a simple majority in the 234-member विधानसभा, prompting intense post-election negotiations to form a government.
The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam finished second with 59 seats, followed by the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam with 47 seats.
Among smaller parties, the Indian National Congress secured 5 seats, while the Pattali Makkal Katchi won 4.
Despite falling short of a majority, TVK’s strong performance marks a significant political breakthrough, placing Vijay at the center of efforts to form the next government.
Sources indicate that TVK has initiated talks with potential allies, including Congress and PMK, both of which are reportedly open to supporting a TVK-led administration in exchange for cabinet positions.
Meanwhile, other regional parties such as the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi and the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam are yet to take a final stance.
As negotiations continue, attention is focused on whether Vijay can secure enough support to cross the majority threshold and form the next government in Tamil Nadu.
