Weather Advisory: Showers, Heavy Rainfall, and Strong Winds Expected

The Department of Meteorology has issued a forecast indicating that showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Eastern and Uva provinces, as well as in the districts of Matale, Nuwara-Eliya, Polonnaruwa, Hambantota, and Matara.

Key Highlights of the Weather Forecast:

  • Heavy Rainfall:
    • Rainfall exceeding 100 mm is anticipated in parts of the Eastern and Uva provinces and the districts of Matale, Nuwara-Eliya, and Hambantota.
    • Fairly heavy showers exceeding 75 mm are expected in areas of the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, as well as in the Galle district.
  • Northern Province and Anuradhapura District:
    • Several spells of showers are likely to occur throughout the day.
  • Elsewhere:
    • Showers or thundershowers are expected at several locations during the afternoon or night.
  • Wind Conditions:
    • Fairly strong winds, ranging from 30-40 kmph, are forecast over the Northern, Eastern, North-Central, North-Western, and Southern provinces.
  • Misty Conditions:
    • Mist may occur in certain areas of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and Central provinces during the morning hours.

Precautionary Measures:

The public is urged to take adequate precautions to minimize potential damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
