World Health Day is being commemorated today (April 7), as declared by the World Health Organization (WHO), to collaborate with governments and stakeholders in raising awareness and promoting healthy living.
This year’s theme is “Healthy Beginnings, Hopeful Futures,” highlighting the importance of maternal and newborn health.
As part of the 2025 observance, the WHO is calling on governments and the global health community to intensify efforts to end preventable maternal and newborn deaths. The organization is also urging a greater focus on women’s long-term health and well-being.
In Sri Lanka, the Ministry of Health has organized several events across the country to mark the occasion and to reinforce the importance of health equity and accessible care for all.
