The Ministry of Defense has reaffirmed that the deadline for returning licensed firearms issued for personal use will not be extended beyond January 20, 2025, under any circumstances.
This mandate applies to firearms issued by the police and the army during the war, which are currently held under personal licenses. The Ministry emphasized that legal action will be initiated against individuals who fail to comply with the deadline.
Initially, the deadline for returning these firearms was December 31, 2024, but an extension was granted to facilitate returns, moving the final date to January 20, 2025.
The Ministry has consistently used electronic and print media to inform license holders that all firearms and ammunition issued to civilians for personal protection must be returned for a comprehensive review.
In line with this policy, the Ministry has decided to issue only one firearm per individual for personal protection, based on intelligence assessments and recommendations. This move aims to ensure stricter oversight and accountability in firearm licensing.
