TRCSL to Implement New System to Block Unauthorized Mobile Phones

The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL) has announced plans to introduce a new software system to detect and block unregistered mobile phones that lack TRCSL approval.

TRCSL Director General, Air Vice Marshal (Retd) Bandula Herath, urged the public to avoid purchasing unapproved mobile devices, emphasizing that the new system will prevent their usage.

“This initiative aims to curb illegal activities associated with unauthorized mobile phones and enhance security for mobile users. It will also help in identifying individuals involved in unlawful transactions,” he stated.

Additionally, Herath noted that as more legally approved devices enter the market, mobile phone prices are expected to decline.
