Ravi Karunanayake, Member of Parliament and former Deputy Leader of the United National Party (UNP), has called on the government to disclose the additional costs Sri Lanka faces for essential commodities and services amid the ongoing conflict-related situation.
Karunanayake stated that the government should calculate and disclose the additional monthly expenditure on petroleum, gas, coal, fertiliser, freight and aviation compared with the levels recorded before the current situation.
He also stressed the need for transparency regarding losses affecting key sectors, including tourism, exports, foreign employment and investment.
The MP further urged the government to clarify who would bear these additional costs and how the necessary funds would be obtained.
