An investigation has uncovered that a woman, disguised as a lawyer, smuggled a revolver into the Colombo Hulftsdorp Court Complex to arm the gunman responsible for the shooting of notorious underworld figure ‘Ganemulla Sanjeewa.’
Police spokesperson SSP Buddhika Manathunga confirmed that the assailant, also dressed as a lawyer, carried out the attack inside the courtroom.
Sanjeewa, who had been brought to court this morning for an ongoing case, sustained critical injuries in the shooting and later succumbed at the hospital.
The revolver used in the attack was recovered inside the court, while the gunman fled the scene immediately after the incident.
Investigations revealed that the suspect, posing as a lawyer, entered the court unarmed and later received the firearm from the woman.
