Budget Fails to Empower Youth in Economy – Ravi Karunanayake

Despite the crucial role played by the country’s youth in bringing the National People’s Power Party to power, the new government’s first budget lacks any initiatives to involve them in the economy, MP Ravi Karunanayake stated.

In an interview with Ceylon Wire, he also criticized the budget for failing to provide a clear path for women who placed their trust in the party.

Furthermore, he pointed out that although the Central Bank has defaulted on international loans, it has not extended any relief to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). He argued that with loan interest rates still ranging between 18% and 22%, struggling entrepreneurs are bearing the burden of the Central Bank’s failures, highlighting the country’s economic contradictions.
