Sri Lanka’s President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has warned that the next three years will be critical as the country prepares to resume debt repayments in 2028.
Speaking on the nation’s three-year grace period, he stressed the need for strategic planning and cautious economic management to prevent setbacks.
To ensure well-informed decisions, the government will adopt a collaborative approach, involving:
✅ The Secretary of the Ministry of Finance
✅ The Governor of the Central Bank
✅ Political authorities
President Dissanayake acknowledged Sri Lanka’s current lack of economic independence, limiting decision-making flexibility. However, he reaffirmed the government’s commitment to prudent policies to navigate these challenges.
Regarding the 2025 budget, he stated that it was crafted within existing constraints, aiming to:
