Minister of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs, Dr. Hiniduma Sunil Senevi, has announced that comprehensive arrangements have been made to facilitate both local and foreign devotees in worshipping the Sacred Tooth Relic with dignity and ease.
He made this announcement during a press briefing held today (April 10) at the Department of Government Information, to inform the public about the upcoming ‘Siri Dalada Vandana’ special exposition.
The much-anticipated exposition of the Sacred Tooth Relic will take place over ten days, from April 18 to April 28.
Queue and Transport Plans
Providing details on the arrangements, Kandy Additional District Secretary Lalith Etampawala stated that three separate queues have been organized for the public—two around the Kandy Lake and one along D.S. Senanayake Street.
To manage the influx of visitors, a special transportation program will be implemented with the support of the Road Passenger Transport Authority, Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB), and the Department of Railways.
“If a large number of vehicles enter the city, they will be stopped before reaching the city center, and special buses will be deployed to transport people,” he explained. For the convenience of elderly and differently-abled individuals, Keppitipola Maha Vidyalaya and Vivekananda College have been designated as accommodation centers.
Security and Regulations
Superintendent of Police D.C.D. Illangakoon noted that only Pooja offerings to the Sacred Tooth Relic will be allowed inside the premises. While mobile phones will not be banned, they must be switched off, and photography will be strictly prohibited.
Devotional Meals and Visiting Hours
The special exposition will be open daily from 7:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. During this period, arrangements have also been made to provide dinner to approximately 35,000 devotees each day at the Sri Dalada Maligawa.
Authorities urge all visitors to follow the guidelines and cooperate fully to ensure a peaceful and spiritually fulfilling experience during this sacred event.
