The National Dengue Control Unit has reported that dengue has claimed the lives of five individuals so far this year.
In addition, 14,678 dengue cases have been recorded during this period.
The highest number of dengue cases has been reported from the districts of Colombo, Gampaha, Kalutara, and Ratnapura. Last year, a total of 49,870 dengue cases were reported.
In response to the rising number of cases, the National Dengue Control Unit has announced the initiation of dengue prevention programs in schools at the regional level this weekend.
