Former Deputy Leader of the United National Party (UNP) and Member of Parliament, Ravi Karunanayake, stated that foreign investors do not come to Sri Lanka out of affection for the country, but rather to earn profits.
Speaking to the media, the MP emphasized that investors will only be attracted to Sri Lanka if the country offers relatively higher returns on their investments.
“In order to generate revenue, it is essential to attract investors by creating a conducive environment and providing the necessary facilities,” he said.
Karunanayake also criticized the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for failing to extend relief to investors, stating that such actions are counterproductive.
He warned that neglecting investor support could further push Sri Lanka into debt rather than contributing to the country’s economic recovery.
