The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) reports that a total of 70,012 electricity breakdowns have occurred across the country over the past 69 hours as of 5:00 p.m. today (June 1), due to prevailing adverse weather conditions.
According to the CEB, power has already been restored in 41,684 of these cases. Additional teams have been deployed and are working around the clock to resolve the remaining outages, a CEB spokesperson stated.
The Board expressed its gratitude for the public’s patience and cooperation during this challenging period, emphasizing that efforts are ongoing to restore power safely and efficiently.
Meanwhile, the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) confirmed that nine districts have been severely affected by the extreme weather. At least three houses have been completely destroyed, while 365 have sustained partial damage.
Colombo and its suburbs were among the hardest-hit areas, with strong winds causing major disruptions to traffic on several key roads.
The CEB reminded consumers that they can report electricity-related issues through the CEBCare App, CEBCare Web Portal, Web Self-Service, or by sending an SMS to the 1987 hotline.
