Former Deputy Leader of the United National Party (UNP) and Member of Parliament Ravi Karunanayake has claimed that the party, once known for uniting all ethnic communities, is now lacking both unity and organizational structure.
Speaking in an interview with ceylonwire.lk, Karunanayake said the absence of cohesion within the party was evident during the most recent local government elections, where candidates operated without proper guidance or coordination.
He further alleged that two individuals—whom he referred to as “ghosts”—are arbitrarily dismantling the party’s internal structure and sidelining senior members.
“These individuals are trying to take over the party and run it according to their personal agenda,” Karunanayake said, warning that such actions are eroding the UNP’s founding principles.
