Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe arrived at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Friday to provide a statement in connection with an ongoing investigation into an overseas trip allegedly funded with government resources, local media reported.
Wickremesinghe was summoned regarding his visit to London, which investigators say included private events but was financed using state funds. The CID has estimated the cost of the trip at approximately Rs. 16.9 million.
Earlier this month, the CID questioned former presidential secretary Saman Ekanayake and former private secretary Sandra Perera as part of the inquiry.
Reporters confirmed that Wickremesinghe arrived at the CID headquarters in Colombo on Friday morning to cooperate with the investigation.
