NBRO Issues Landslide Warnings for Several Districts

The National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) has issued landslide early warnings for several districts due to prevailing rainy weather. The warnings are effective for 24 hours, from 4.00 p.m. today (11) until 4.00 p.m. tomorrow (12).

A Level 2 (Yellow) warning has been issued for Ruwanwella, Bulathkohupitiya and Mawanella in the Kegalle District.

Level 1 (Amber) awareness warnings have been issued for Ella and Passara in Badulla; Walallavita and Bulathsinhala in Kalutara; Thumpane, Yatinuwara, Hatharaliyadda and Doluwa in Kandy; Aranayake, Dehiowita, Yatiyanthota, Rambukkana, Kegalle and Warakapola in Kegalle; Mawathagama, Mallawapitiya and Alawwa in Kurunegala; Matale, Rattota and Ambanganga Korale in Matale; Hanguranketha in Nuwara Eliya; and Imbulpe, Nivithigala, Ayagama, Kuruwita, Weligepola, Eheliyagoda, Kalawana and Ratnapura in Ratnapura.

Disaster management authorities have urged residents and motorists in the affected areas to remain vigilant, as continued rainfall could trigger landslides, earth slips and rockfalls.
