Former Deputy Leader of the United National Party and Parliamentarian Ravi Karunanayake said that the agreement Sri Lanka reached with the International Monetary Fund is due to conclude by the end of this year.
He noted that the government now faces a critical decision on whether to re-enter negotiations or review existing issues and continue the programme in a manner that best serves the country’s interests.
Ravi Karunanayake pointed out that securing IMF support at a time when Sri Lanka is grappling with a major natural disaster will largely depend on the government’s negotiating capacity.
He added that governing inevitably involves confronting challenges and stressed that this is not a problem unique to the current administration, but one faced by any government in such circumstances.
