The Sri Lanka Navy says it has seized significant quantities of illegal narcotics during operations conducted across the country’s territorial waters so far this year.
According to the Navy, the seizures include 256.2 kilograms of cocaine, 1,080.894 kilograms of heroin, 667.695 kilograms of Kerala cannabis, 590.806 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine (commonly known as “Ice”), and 56 kilograms of hashish.
The Navy stated that the drugs were intercepted during maritime surveillance and anti-smuggling operations carried out in Sri Lankan waters.
In addition to the narcotics seizures, several local multi-day fishing trawlers allegedly used to smuggle prohibited drugs into the country were also detected and taken into custody as part of the ongoing operations.
The Navy said it continues to strengthen maritime surveillance and enforcement efforts to prevent drug trafficking and other illegal activities at sea.
