October 27, 2026

Ravi Karunanayake, Member of Parliament and former Deputy Leader of the United National Party (UNP), has called for clear financial plans to protect Sri Lanka’s economy from potential challenges arising from conflicts in the Middle East and tensions involving the United States.

Speaking in Parliament, Karunanayake warned that escalating tensions involving the United States, Israel and Iran could pose a serious threat to Sri Lanka’s economic recovery.

He noted that the situation could have significant adverse effects on the country’s energy, trade and financial sectors.

The MP stressed the need for a clear and practical financial strategy to help Sri Lanka manage these external risks and safeguard its economic stability.
