Election Commissioner General Saman Sri Ratnayake has confirmed that preparations for the general elections scheduled for November 14 are progressing smoothly.
During a media briefing, he assured the public that all electoral officials, including assistant and deputy commissioners, are actively engaged in ensuring a seamless election process. He anticipates that approximately 1.7 million voters will have the opportunity to cast their votes at polling stations on election day.
Ratnayake emphasized that the elections will adhere to the regulations set forth in the Parliamentary Elections Act No. 1 of 1981. Despite facing some legal challenges, he affirmed that there would be no delays in the election schedule.
He also noted that any citizen who feels they have been treated unfairly has the right to file a petition for the protection of their fundamental rights. However, unless directed otherwise by the courts, election preparations will proceed as planned.
