Minister Anil Jayantha has stated that Sri Lanka is engaging with the United States’ evolving foreign policy while maintaining proper diplomatic relations between the two nations.
Responding to a question in Parliament from MP Ravi Karunanayake, the former Deputy Leader of the United National Party (UNP), the minister explained that the U.S. applies tariff policies on a country-specific basis. He assured that Sri Lanka is strategically assessing its approach to negotiations with the U.S. to explore potential trade benefits.
MP Karunanayake had questioned why the government has not pursued a special tariff agreement with the U.S., especially as Sri Lanka seeks economic recovery from bankruptcy.
