The Sri Lanka Army has initiated a nationwide cleaning and renovation programme for paddy storage facilities in preparation for the upcoming Maha season harvest. The programme, running from 18 January 2025 to 27 January 2025, focuses on refurbishing 209 facilities owned by the Paddy Marketing Board that have remained unused for an extended period.
Under the guidance of Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo, Commander of the Sri Lanka Army, and directives from the Secretary of Defence, the operation began on 18 January 2025. Security Force Headquarters across the country are coordinating the efforts.
This initiative is part of a broader government plan to ensure that the storage facilities are in optimal condition to store paddy harvested during the Maha season, meeting all necessary standards.
