The Department of Meteorology forecasts showers throughout the day (January 22) in the Eastern, Northern, North-Central, Central, and Uva provinces, as well as in the Hambantota district.
According to the latest forecast, showers or thundershowers are likely in several other areas during the evening or night. Morning showers are also expected in the Western Province and the Galle and Matara districts.
Fairly heavy rainfall, reaching up to 75 mm, is anticipated in some areas of the Eastern, North-Central, Uva, and North-Western provinces.
Additionally, fairly strong winds of 30-40 km/h are expected at times over the eastern slopes of the central hills and across the Northern, North-Central, Eastern, and North-Western provinces, as well as in the Hambantota and Monaragala districts.
The general public is urged to take precautions against possible damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
