Cabinet Approves Recruitment of 18,853 Graduates and Youth to State Service

The Cabinet of Ministers has approved a proposal to recruit 18,853 unemployed graduates and youth into the state service.

The Cabinet paper was submitted based on recommendations made by a special committee chaired by the Secretary to the Prime Minister. The recruitment will be carried out transparently and without any political interference, according to Cabinet Spokesman Minister Nalinda Jayatissa.

Speaking at the weekly Cabinet media briefing held today (April 8), Minister Jayatissa highlighted that the decision was made in response to the high unemployment rate in the country, which has been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic and recent political and economic instability.

He further stated that President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, in his capacity as Minister of Finance, allocated Rs. 10 billion in the 2025 national budget to support this employment initiative for graduates and youth.

The recruitment process will be conducted under the supervision of the Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils, and Local Government.
