Government Probes Escalating Underworld Crimes: President Assures Public Safety

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake announced today that the government has initiated an investigation to determine whether a hidden force is driving the recent surge in underworld crimes or if they are simply clashes between rival gangs.

Speaking to reporters in Kandy, the President emphasized that these incidents do not pose a threat to national security or endanger the general public.

During his visit to the Mahanayake Theras in Kandy, President Dissanayake highlighted that underworld gangs have been nurtured through political patronage over the years, evolving into a dangerous and destructive network.

He assured that the government is committed to dismantling these criminal networks and expressed confidence in the National People’s Power (NPP) government’s ability to eradicate them.

The President also revealed that authorities have received information suggesting possible external influences behind these violent incidents, prompting the launch of a thorough investigation.
