India’s Proposed Amendments to Indo-Sri Lanka Fisheries Discussions Sent for Review

India’s proposed amendments to the notes of discussions from the recent Indo-Sri Lanka fisheries meeting have been forwarded to Sri Lanka, according to Fisheries Ministry Secretary Sampath Manthrinayake.

Discussions on the matter are currently ongoing, and India’s proposals have also been referred to the Attorney General’s Department for review.

The sixth round of talks on the Indo-Sri Lanka fisheries issue was held in October 2023, with both sides working toward a resolution.

A final decision will be made after consultations with all relevant stakeholders. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka has proposed alternative livelihood options for Indian fishermen involved in illegal fishing in Sri Lankan waters.
