Ministry of Public Security Increases Daily Passport Issuance to 2,500

The Ministry of Public Security has announced an increase in passport issuance, with 2,500 passports now being processed daily, compared to the previous figure of 1,100.

Minister Ananda Wijepala addressed concerns about delays, including reports of a three-month waiting period to obtain passports. Speaking to News First, he assured the public that a special channel has been established to expedite passport processing for individuals with urgent travel needs.

Applications submitted through this expedited channel will be reviewed by a dedicated committee to ensure passports are issued promptly in such cases, the Minister confirmed.

The move aims to enhance efficiency and address the growing demand for travel documentation.
