The Department of Meteorology forecasts showers or thundershowers at times today (April 11) in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, and North-Western provinces, as well as in the Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts.
Several spells of showers are also likely in the Anuradhapura, Matale, and Mannar districts, according to the Department.
Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers may occur in parts of the Uva Province and in the Ampara, Batticaloa, and Polonnaruwa districts during the afternoon or night.
Fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 50 mm is expected in some areas within the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts.
Fairly strong winds ranging from 30 to 40 kmph can be expected at times over the western slopes of the central hills and in the Northern, North-Central, and North-Western provinces, as well as in Trincomalee and Hambantota districts.
The general public is kindly urged to take appropriate precautions to minimize the risk of damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Meanwhile, due to the apparent northward motion of the sun, it will be directly overhead in various parts of Sri Lanka from April 5 to 14.
Today (April 11), the sun will be directly overhead at approximately 12:11 p.m. in areas including Maningamuwa, Rambewa, Kahatagasdigiliya, Eithala Wetunu Wewa, and Muthur.
