SL CERT Warns Public of SMS Scams and Provides Update on Cyberattack

The Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Readiness Team (SL CERT) has alerted the public about fraudulent text messages and phone calls falsely promising monetary rewards or prizes.

Charuka Damunupola, Senior Information Engineer at SL CERT, noted a rise in these scams, which often involve claims of prize winnings, discounts, work-from-home opportunities, or overseas job offers.

“Such communications are designed to deceive. We urge the public to stay cautious and avoid sharing personal information through these channels,” Damunupola advised.

In a related update, Damunupola addressed the recent cyberattack on the Government Printing Department’s official website.

“We have identified vulnerabilities that may have facilitated the attack. Our team is actively working to address these issues, and we aim to restore the website’s accessibility soon,” he assured.

The public is advised to report suspicious messages or activities to SL CERT for further investigation.
