The suspect accused of sexually assaulting a female doctor at the doctors’ quarters of Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital on Monday night (10) has been arrested, Sri Lanka Police confirmed.
The arrest was made today (12) by the Galnewa Police, following an island-wide strike launched by the Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA), which demanded the immediate apprehension of the suspect.
According to reports, the 32-year-old doctor had returned to her government-provided dormitory after completing her duties when the incident occurred between 6:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. An unidentified assailant allegedly entered the premises, threatened her with a knife, and sexually assaulted her.
Anuradhapura Police has launched further investigations into the case.
